What to expect when you join one of our events

Get involved and become part of the community

When you come to one of our events you should first identify the co-ordinator or one of the volunteers assisting. If you are attending for the first time, we recommend coming early in the session so that you can be paired up with an experienced volunteer.

Our coordinators are responsible for:

  • Signing you in, so we know who is present
  • Providing you with equipment – a litter picker, a hoop with a bag, gloves and a hi-viz jacket
  • A short briefing about how to use the equipment and what to avoid
  • Confirming that you have come back with some rubbish!
  • Provide a suggested location and pair you up

What we ask of you:

  • Make sure you sign-in
  • Wear long sleeves and trousers if possible
  • Don’t wear sandals or open toed shows
  • We strongly recommend that you wear the gloves and hi-viz jacket provided
  • Only keep picking as long as you feel comfortable
  • If you can, bring your bags back to where the litter pick started so we can count and weigh them
  • If your bag is getting too heavy to carry, leave it by a council bin, avoiding blocking the pavement. Take a photo and share with the coordinator.
  • Being your kit back and sign-out

At Wapping, Shadwell and Stepney Green we are able to offer a hot drink and biscuits – we typically offer tea (black, green and fruit), coffee and hot chocolate with dairy milk. If you have any dietary needs, let us know and we’ll try and accommodate.

At Wapping and Shadwell we also offer a voucher for a free coffee at Urban Baristas.
