Our neighbourhood

A cleaner Poplar, together

Poplar Picks brings local people together around Bartlett Park and the Limehouse Cut. A couple of hours with a litter picker is a practical way to improve the area and meet people who care about their neighbourhood.

Our published meeting point is by Poplar Union on the canal side of Bartlett Park. Once everyone has signed in, the co-ordinator provides equipment, explains the safety guidance and helps volunteers choose where to focus. New faces and returning volunteers are equally welcome.

First time? You’re welcome

How the litter pick works

You do not need your own litter picker or previous experience. The WaSh Wombles co-ordinators provide the kit and a short safety briefing.

Meet and sign in

Find the co-ordinator at the meeting point. If it is your first time, aim to arrive near the start.

Collect your kit

Pick up a litter picker, bag and hoop, gloves and high-visibility vest. Listen to the safety guidance and the suggested route.

Pick, return, sign out

Work at a pace that suits you. Bring back your collected rubbish and equipment, then sign out with the co-ordinator.

What to wear: comfortable closed-toe shoes and, if possible, long sleeves and trousers. Follow the co-ordinator’s advice and leave sharp or hazardous items untouched.
