Our neighbourhood

A cleaner King Edward Memorial Park, together

King Edward Memorial Park is a special stretch of open space beside the Thames. With paths, lawns and places for the community to enjoy the river, it is well worth looking after. Our monthly group makes caring for this park something people can do together.

The meeting point is the bandstand inside the park. Once you have found the co-ordinator, you will be signed in, given litter-picking equipment and shown how the session works. There is no need to be an expert; helping for part of the session still counts.

First time? You’re welcome

How the litter pick works

You do not need your own litter picker or previous experience. The WaSh Wombles co-ordinators provide the kit and a short safety briefing.

Meet and sign in

Find the co-ordinator at the meeting point. If it is your first time, aim to arrive near the start.

Collect your kit

Pick up a litter picker, bag and hoop, gloves and high-visibility vest. Listen to the safety guidance and the suggested route.

Pick, return, sign out

Work at a pace that suits you. Bring back your collected rubbish and equipment, then sign out with the co-ordinator.

What to wear: comfortable closed-toe shoes and, if possible, long sleeves and trousers. Follow the co-ordinator’s advice and leave sharp or hazardous items untouched.

Good to know

Questions about King Edward Memorial Park litter picking

Where is the meeting point in the park?

The group meets at the bandstand in King Edward Memorial Park. Look for volunteers with litter-picking equipment.

Will the group be working next to the River Thames?

The co-ordinator decides which safe areas to cover during each session. Follow their guidance and do not enter the foreshore or any restricted areas.

What if I can only stay for part of the session?

That is fine. The volunteer guidance says you should pick only for as long as you feel comfortable. Please return your kit and sign out when you finish.

We don’t grumble. We Womble.

Come along, meet the neighbours and help make Tower Hamlets a cleaner place, one piece of litter at a time.
