Our neighbourhood

A cleaner Wapping, together

Wapping has busy local routes, residential streets and quiet green corners. The WaSh Wombles bring neighbours together to look after those shared places while getting fresh air and having a good chat along the way.

We start on Wapping Lane, across from Wapping Green. The event co-ordinator checks everyone in, hands out equipment and provides a safety briefing. You can work with other volunteers and take part at a comfortable pace, whether this is your first visit or your fiftieth.

First time? You’re welcome

How the litter pick works

You do not need your own litter picker or previous experience. The WaSh Wombles co-ordinators provide the kit and a short safety briefing.

Meet and sign in

Find the co-ordinator at the meeting point. If it is your first time, aim to arrive near the start.

Collect your kit

Pick up a litter picker, bag and hoop, gloves and high-visibility vest. Listen to the safety guidance and the suggested route.

Pick, return, sign out

Work at a pace that suits you. Bring back your collected rubbish and equipment, then sign out with the co-ordinator.

What to wear: comfortable closed-toe shoes and, if possible, long sleeves and trousers. Follow the co-ordinator’s advice and leave sharp or hazardous items untouched.

Which side of Wapping Green is the meeting point?

The published meeting point is on Wapping Lane, opposite Wapping Green. Look for the co-ordinator and other volunteers near the start time.

Can I come if I have never picked litter before?

Yes. The co-ordinator will explain how to use the equipment, what to avoid and where to go. Arriving near the start is recommended for new volunteers.

What if I can only stay for part of the session?

That is fine. The volunteer guidance says you should pick only for as long as you feel comfortable. Please return your kit and sign out when you finish.
