Our neighbourhood

A cleaner Limehouse, together

Limehouse is shaped by its waterways, connecting streets and community gathering places. Our regular clean-up is a chance to give something back to the area, enjoy the outdoors and see the results of a shared effort.

We meet near the Yurt Café by the Butcher Row entrance. After sign-in and a quick safety briefing, the co-ordinator provides litter-picking kit and helps the group get started. The session is welcoming to people who are new to volunteering, so you do not need to bring equipment or experience.

First time? You’re welcome

How the litter pick works

You do not need your own litter picker or previous experience. The WaSh Wombles co-ordinators provide the kit and a short safety briefing.

Meet and sign in

Find the co-ordinator at the meeting point. If it is your first time, aim to arrive near the start.

Collect your kit

Pick up a litter picker, bag and hoop, gloves and high-visibility vest. Listen to the safety guidance and the suggested route.

Pick, return, sign out

Work at a pace that suits you. Bring back your collected rubbish and equipment, then sign out with the co-ordinator.

What to wear: comfortable closed-toe shoes and, if possible, long sleeves and trousers. Follow the co-ordinator’s advice and leave sharp or hazardous items untouched.

Questions about Limehouse litter picking

Do we meet inside the Yurt Café?

The published instructions say the meeting point is at the Yurt Café near the Butcher Row entrance. Look for the volunteers and co-ordinator nearby.

Do I need to bring my own gloves or bags?

No. The WaSh Wombles provide gloves, a litter picker, a bag and other essential equipment at the start of the session.

What if I can only stay for part of the session?

That is fine. The volunteer guidance says you should pick only for as long as you feel comfortable. Please return your kit and sign out when you finish.

We don’t grumble. We Womble.

Come along, meet the neighbours and help make Tower Hamlets a cleaner place, one piece of litter at a time.
